Some Nigerians are supporting Boko Haram – Buratai Chief-of-Army-Staff-Major-General-T-Y-Buratai

Lieutenant General Yusuf Buratai who is the chief of army staff has said that some Nigerians are still supporting Boko Haram even though the army is working to rid the country off terrorism.

Daily Trust reports that the chief of army staff made this statement on Monday, November 7 on sideline of the seminar on Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.“We need to work together and synergize together, fighting insurgency in Nigeria is a situation whereby, they have melted into the society and we have some elements within the society still supporting them clandestinely.”
“This is a loss too many, there must be collective effort by all Nigerians and indeed globally to ensure that terrorism is fought to the end.

“The support of every Nigerian is key to the end terrorism, not only in Nigeria but globally, you know that not only in Nigeria, but ISIL also are supporting them. It requires total commitment of everybody.”

Buratai also pointed out that the issue of security concerns the whole country and should not be seen as a political one.

John Pham who is the Director African Center Atlantic Council who was also at the seminar said Nigeria was one of the countries that topped the interest of the US in its relations with Africa which was why they were interested in knowing the level of success achieved.

“It important that our two sides get the opportunity to speak and understand better the pressures, the demands and requirements of each side that’s what our partnership is about.”

He added that: “I’m very privileged to be able to come to Nigeria, building the partnership we need for international security in the 21st century.”

The army chief expressed sadness over the killing of Lt. Col. Muhammad Abu Ali and described it as a great loss.
