Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana which was formally known as "The Federal Polytechnic, Unwana-Afikpo". The name of the school is abbrieviated as A.I.F.P.U.

This polytechnic was established by Decree No. 33 of 1979 and the polytechnic effectively took off in November 1981.

Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic is a Federal Polytechnic which is located in Unwana, Afikpo North Local Government in Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

The school has a philophy which is embodied in her MOTTO "Skill For Technological Freedom".

The school admitted her first batch students which where in total 178 students into the institution in 27th May, 1982
